Introducing the LUSU Club Lottery

Basketball

Play. Support. Win.

At LUSU, we’re pretty proud of our sports clubs. For many people, they’re a big part of their uni experience. From BUCS to Roses, we take pride in the amazing things our athletes achieve, whether they’re pros or just beginning to learn. You can find out more about Sport at LUSU here.

Supporting these clubs is pretty important to us too. Which is where the LUSU Club Lottery comes in.

What is it?

The Club Lottery is a support charity dedicated to helping raise funds for Lancaster Sports teams and clubs. It’s a chance for family, friends, alumni, and students if they want to, to support uni sports – all while being in with the chance to win cash prizes of up to £25,000 each week!

And all for as little as £5 a month.

So, How Does it Work?

We like to keep it simple. All players have to do is:

  • Choose the club you want to support

  • Follow the instructions and set up your monthly direct debit

  • Get entered into weekly prize draws

Why Does it Matter?

Clubs at LUSU require funding in order to carry out their weekly activities. This could be anything from booking spaces, or travel expenses to away games. Some of our clubs have sponsors that help out with this. But the lottery gives them a new way!

Support from the lottery means more funds for clubs. Which also means better equipment and kit, access to coaching, and further provisions that clubs otherwise may not have been able to afford.

Take it from one of our clubs, LU Korfball:

“Korfball is undoubtedly a unique sport matched by a wonderful club. As alumni, family members, and supporters of the club, we hope you’ve seen this yourselves… we need your help to continue making the club the best it can be and to improve the university experience for countless more future Ligers.”

Wellbeing

Student and public wellbeing & safety matters to us. In accordance with UK gambling laws, there are a number of measures in place in order to promote safe gambling and prevent certain situations.

This includes things such as spending and age limits, self-exclusion policies, and further support through the lottery provider. You can find out more about Responsible Gambling here.

You can also contact our LUSU Advice team at any time as a student for advice and support.

Where Does the Money Go?

Let’s break it down: for every weekly £1 entry allocated to a club, 50p will go towards that club. This gives them the opportunity to afford better equipment, and further provisions.

40p will go towards prizes and administration of the lottery, going towards your chance to win up to £25,000.

The remaining 10p goes towards LUSU. Lancaster University Students’ Union is a charity that supports the student experience for every student at Lancaster. This money goes towards improving that experience through Sport, Societies, Welfare, Events, and more.
