Sustainability at Lancaster
Passionate about nature and the environment? There are so many ways you can get involved in sustainability at Lancaster through LUSU Green!
Whether it be helping us plant trees on campus, repairing an item of clothing at one of our sewing cafe’s, or campaigning on issues that matter to you, there is so many ways you can make friends while also making a difference during your time here at Lancaster.
Sustainability Events
At LUSU Green, we run weekly events for you to get involved in. To provide a snapshot of what we do, last year, 576 students volunteered with LUSU Green and they:
Planted over 2000 trees, including creating a micro-wood forest right here on campus!
Repaired t-shirts, jeans, socks and much more at our Sewing Repair Cafes
Took part in our Climate Conference – helping shape a set of sustainability demands for the university to implement
Participated in ECOChallenge 2026 – an inter-collegiate sustainability competition where the winning team won £250 and another team won a paid internship with the sustainability team
Helped LUSU achieve Excellent status at the 2025-26 Green Impact Awards – the highest grade possible
Took part in the LUSU Sustainability Competition – an opportunity for student groups to win money by being sustainable
Joined our LUSU Sustainability Committee – a chance for students to run their own sustainability events and help shape the strategy of LUSU on sustainability.
Absolutely no knowledge or prior experience is needed to come to any of our events. We will show you everything there is to know, whether that be how to plant a tree or how to repair your clothes, we love to see new faces at our events – and we hope you will join us!
